As we focus on relationship-building this year, and continue to have our chapter meetings on Zoom, we're eager to offer our members opportunities to connect in person. We think having "neighborhood groups" that can meet occasionally for coffee could be a great way to build community and share local info.

Hosted by Val Green, Pivot Organizing

Our Coffee Chats are open to anyone

We pride ourselves on being a cohesive, positive, enthusiastic group. Brainstorming and idea sharing are encouraged. All meetings begin on time with the intention of ending on time, and we abide by the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) Anti-Trust Compliance Policy during all chapter events. NAPO expects attendees to take responsibility themselves for following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and their local health officials, on measures to reduce infection from COVID-19 and to protect against severe complications. Click here to read NAPO's COVID policy in full.

    Hoarding Disorder, Absolute Basics -

    CEU-eligible

Lauren Williams, CPO, Casual Uncluttering LLC

    Tuesday September 3, 2024

    6:15PM - 8:00PM

Hoarded environments can be frightening, sickening and dangerous. And hoarding clients are baffling, frustrating, discouraging, and generous, charming, creative, witty, highly intelligent and much more than just their mental illness. Working with hoarding clients is not for everyone, maybe not even most people, but Lauren believes all Professional Organizers will meet at least one person with hoarding disorder during their careers. It's better to be informed about this horribly destructive disease for when that happens.

    Learning Objectives: Attendees will gain

    • ·       A realistic understanding of the limitations and difficulties of working with a person with hoarding disorder
    • ·       An appreciation for the danger they may be in, both emotionally and physically
    • ·       Practical tools which may improve a Professional Organizer's communication with a person who excessively acquires and/or is unable to readily let go of possessions.

    Break-out room questions:

Do you think you have ever met a person with hoarding disorder, personally or professionally?

Have you ever been in a hoarded environment? Did you know you were going to be entering that situation?

Lauren Williams, Owner of Casual Uncluttering LLC, is a NAPO Board-Certified Professional Organizer® in business since October 2011. She has a BA from Bryn Mawr College, and an MBA from Baruch College of the City University of New York. She’s moved cross country three times - she understands disruption! She’s been the stay-at-home parent to a special-needs child, but her young person no longer needs those supports. She’s divorced and downsized from the 4,600 sq. ft. house to the 1,024 sq. ft. apartment. Lauren has worked with 100s of clients - nuns, doctors, lawyers and many other demanding specialists - and earned 300 hours of continuing education classes so far to keep her using best practices in her vocation. She increasingly specializes in severe chronic disorganization and hoarding projects.

As we focus on relationship-building this year, and continue to have our chapter meetings on Zoom, we're eager to offer our members opportunities to connect in person. We think having "neighborhood groups" that can meet occasionally for coffee could be a great way to build community and share local info.
